This website is dedicated to the descendents, relatives, friends, and wise county neighbors of the family of George John Raven and Mary Caroline Leverett Raven. George and Mary relocated to Bridgeport in Wise County from Travis County in 1910 with their six children.
The photo below of George and Mary and their six children is believed to have been made in Travis County shortly before the family moved to Wise County. Click on the name or the face of the person in this photo to navigate to a page with more about them.
This site is sponsored by the descendents of Oscar Laurence Raven and Ruby Melvina Tackel. Oscar was the second child and oldest son of George and Mary Raven, and Ruby was the oldest daughter of Bill and Etha Tackel, a pioneering family of Wise County's East Mound German community.
This site is intended to be a depository for all kinds of information about the George and Mary Raven family, which is still well represented by a broad collection of cousins in Wise County.
The descendents of each of their six children are encouraged to submit information about their Ravens and to participate in the design and operation of the site. Each of the children of George and Mary will have a section of the website, linked from this page, where facts, stories, photos, documents, and other information may be posted.
Other material planned for the site include trails back to various ancestors of George and Mary, historical events that have influenced or directly involved the family, military and public service activities, and other items of genealogical interest. We hope to reveal our Raven family history more by the stories we tell here than by the names and dates and facts and figures of our lineage.
